Kurt’s 2 million for air line subsidies, – “Investment,” “Buying votes” clash Viktor Buzhala and Rashit Qalaj

During a recent debate at T7 Pressing, a significant disagreement emerged between political figures regarding the proposed allocation of 2 million euros to subsidize airlines. Viktor Buzhala, representing the Guxo party, defended the funding, characterizing the expenditure as a beneficial investment derived from substantial diaspora funds. Buzhala argued that the subsidy is necessary to prevent the cancellation of flights throughout the summer season, extending until October.

He attributed the rising operational costs to geopolitical factors, specifically mentioning the impact of blockades at the Strait of Hormuz, which have heightened the risk of service disruptions. Conversely, Rashit Qalaj of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) strongly contested the measure. Qalaj labeled the government’s decision as a financial impropriety, questioning the true purpose of the expenditure.

He publicly challenged the rationale behind the subsidy, suggesting that the funds might be intended for political gain rather than genuine infrastructure support. The debate highlighted a clear policy divide over the management of public funds. Buzhala emphasized the practical necessity of the support for the national air sector, framing the 2 million euro injection as vital for maintaining connectivity.

Qalaj, however, maintained that such large-scale spending lacked transparency and questioned whether the initiative constituted a legitimate investment or a means of political patronage. The exchange underscored ongoing political tensions surrounding economic resource allocation in the region.

  1. It’s difficult to separate genuine infrastructure investment from what seems like political vote-buying.
