The cut for the Zvërnec project: We will not let it die before it is born

Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed journalists from European Union countries, discussing the recent youth protests and a planned development in Zvërnec. He characterized the initiative as a significant investment that is currently facing targeted opposition. Rama noted that Albania has been engaged in a cyberwar with Iran for the past three years.

He suggested that efforts are underway to influence the public discourse surrounding the Zvërnec project. “We have been in a cyberwar with Iran for three years. Meanwhile, we have one of the best cyber defenses,” Rama stated.

He asserted that there are concerted efforts aimed at escalating and undermining the issue. According to Rama, various interests are attempting to construct specific narratives, and there has been a considerable amount of misinformation, including from the opposition, concerning the investment. The head of the government emphasized the importance of the project while addressing the surrounding controversy.

His remarks indicated a belief that the opposition’s criticism is part of a broader campaign of disinformation. Rama’s statements linked the domestic debate to the ongoing geopolitical tensions, framing the controversy as an attack on a vital national undertaking amidst the backdrop of the ongoing cyberwar with Iran.

  1. I wonder what the core issues are if the opposition to this project is so specifically targeted.

  2. What specific measures are planned to overcome the opposition facing the Zvërnec development project?
