YouTube has announced enhancements to its transparency regarding content created using artificial intelligence. Effective immediately, all videos uploaded to the platform that have been substantially modified or entirely generated by AI will display a visible AI label. For longer-form content, this label will appear beneath the video player and above the description box.
In the case of Shorts, the indicator will be displayed as an overlay directly on the video itself. While YouTube continues to encourage content creators to voluntarily apply the label when their videos are AI-generated, the platform is also implementing a content detection system. This new system will analyze uploaded material to identify and report content that appears to be AI-generated, even if the creator has not manually applied the disclosure.
This initiative aims to provide viewers with greater clarity regarding the origin of the media they consume on YouTube. By standardizing the visual notification, the platform seeks to enhance trust and transparency within its ecosystem. The dual approach—combining voluntary creator disclosure with automated detection—ensures that the label serves as a consistent indicator for the audience regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the production of content on YouTube.
