Former leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has publicly accused the current Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, of making decisions that reportedly favor Serbia within Kosovo’s trade and energy sectors. In a recent statement, Haradinaj contrasted his past policies with those enacted under the current administration. He recalled that when he served as Prime Minister, he had implemented a 100 percent tax on Serbian goods on November 21, 2018.
Haradinaj noted that the Kurti government subsequently lifted this measure on April 1, 2020, which he characterized as reopening the market to Serbian products. Regarding energy infrastructure, Haradinaj pointed to a project signed on October 20, 2017, with the company ContourGlobal, intended to establish energy independence for Kosovo from Serbia. He alleged that the Kurti administration canceled this initiative in 2020.
Furthermore, Haradinaj criticized the government’s handling of energy sources, specifically mentioning the rejection of an American gas project during 2021–2022 and the subsequent import of electrical energy. The accusations suggest a shift in policy direction regarding Kosovo’s economic alignment. Haradinaj’s comments place the former leader in direct opposition to the current direction set by Prime Minister Kurti, raising questions about the long-term strategic autonomy of the nation’s key sectors.
