Seizure of the Russian cistern – Britain arrests 25 more crew members

United Kingdom armed forces and law enforcement personnel recently entered a Russian submarine cistern for the first time. According to reports from Sky News, the deck of the Russian vessel housed approximately 25 crew members representing various nationalities.

Lieutenant Colonel Tom Quinn, the commanding officer of the Royal Marines, reported that the crew on board did not offer resistance. He characterized the individuals as “professional” while assisting the marines in taking secure control of the oil cistern, named “Smyrtos.” Quinn also stated that the crew is currently under the care of the National Crime Agency, which is reportedly providing appropriate care for them. The cistern, which was flying the Cameroonian flag, was stopped during the operation.
