Babies: A rare dose for loss and hope.

Stephen and Lisa are both doing well. “Are you alright?” Stephen (Paapa Essiedu) asks, sitting beside his wife on the sofa. “Yes,” replies Lisa (Siobhán Cullen) lost in her large hood.

“I’m fine,” says Stephen. “Everything is okay.”

Their love remains a constant, a quiet strength despite past experiences. Lisa has faced the heartbreaking loss of two children, a sorrow that isn’t always readily expressed.

Often, such profound grief is unspoken, a private burden. “We need to remain positive,” Stephen says. “Eyes on the future, we move forward.” They consciously choose not to allow these losses to define them, refusing to be consumed by the past.

Furthermore, as Lisa says, no one else truly understands the depth of their pain. “We are so alone,” she says. Consequently, they strengthen their bond, uniting in a shared resolve.

They embrace a bittersweet-happy “kokonin,” continuing their lives with a forward-looking perspective. It’s a commitment to head up, to move forward, and to let go. Stephen and Lisa navigate this together.
