JD Power has released its latest automotive quality study, revealing shifts in brand performance across both the premium and mainstream vehicle segments. According to the report, Porsche has assumed the top position, leading both markets with a score of 138 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). Genesis secured the second spot with 151 PP100, while Ford ranked third (152 PP100), establishing itself as the top-performing brand in the mainstream sector.
Notably, Lexus, which previously held the top ranking, dropped to fourth place, tying with Nissan at 156 PP100. The overall average for the industry, as measured by the study, was 175 PP100. This represents a significant improvement compared to the previous year’s average of 192 PP100, marking the best year-over-year improvement for the report in nearly three decades.
While the overall trend indicates improved vehicle quality across the board, the study did identify specific areas of concern. The only category that reported an increase in problems was infotainment systems, particularly concerning the integration and connection of Apple CarPlay. These findings provide consumers and manufacturers with current benchmarks regarding vehicle reliability.
