After 27 years, the preliminary list of victims is published

Seventy-seven years following the conclusion of the conflict in Kosovo, the initial draft of the preliminary list of war victims was presented during a consultative meeting convened by the Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo. The gathering brought together representatives from multiple sectors, including state institutions, the Academy of Sciences, the University of Pristina, subject matter experts, and various civil society organizations. Attendees participated in a review session aimed at validating the existing data and pinpointing necessary additions to the record.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, provided context regarding the compilation effort. He noted that the current list is the culmination of an extensive, multi-year undertaking. Kurti emphasized that the document represents a process exceeding two years, dedicated to the meticulous collection, comparison, and verification of data related to the war period.

The meeting underscores the ongoing effort to comprehensively document the human cost associated with the conflict. The review process is designed to ensure that the final record of victims is as accurate and exhaustive as possible. This consultative approach highlights the collaborative nature required to establish such a sensitive and large-scale historical document.

The continued work on this list aims to solidify the historical memory of the war and support ongoing reconciliation efforts in the region.
