The government intends to investigate whether recent announcements concerning the price of bread are warranted, stated Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. Today, he will convene a meeting to evaluate the factors involved and, subsequently, decide if any interventions are required. Rising bread prices are being observed across multiple cities in North Macedonia.
“We will analyze the situation and today during the day we will have a meeting on this topic,” Mickoski explained. “We will examine the contribution and, based on that declaration, determine if a price increase is genuinely necessary.”
If a need for increased prices is established, the government will proceed with appropriate measures. Conversely, if the justification is lacking, those responsible for deviations from market-based pricing will face fines.
Several bakeries have recently announced a rise in the price of bread, driven by escalating overall cost increases. The government’s focus remains on ensuring stability within the bread market and addressing the current price concerns.
