NORSI, identified as Russia’s fourth-largest oil refinery and second-largest gasoline producer, has suspended crude oil processing following a drone attack by Ukraine. According to statements from two industry sources, the incident occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where the norsi facility is situated. Local governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed yesterday that the attack resulted in one fatality and damage to an industrial facility within the area.
Sources further specified that the primary processing unit, CDU-6, sustained damage during the assault on the refinery. This particular unit is significant to the plant’s operations, as it has a daily processing capacity of 25,700 metric tons of oil—equivalent to approximately 190,000 barrels—representing 53 percent of the entire refinery’s total capacity. The suspension of operations due to the damage has immediate implications for Russia’s oil refining output.
Lukoil, the owner of the norsi facility, has not yet issued a formal response to requests for comment regarding the scale of the damage or the expected duration of the operational halt. The incident highlights the ongoing impact of geopolitical tensions on critical energy infrastructure within the region.
