The Reconstruction of the Government, Selmani is skeptical: The public debt remains a problem

The government is reportedly entering a final phase of reform following the announcement of new ministerial appointments. However, this transition has prompted questions regarding the depth of expected change, particularly concerning the resolution of persistent national issues. University Professor Bashkim Selmani expressed skepticism about the efficacy of cabinet changes alone.

According to Selmani, the state will not experience meaningful improvement without the implementation of a comprehensive strategy. He emphasized that the primary underlying challenge remains the significant level of public debt. “We currently only have agreements among individuals, but the strategy, aging demographics, the public debt of citizens, and the economic crisis are factors that the current government is not adequately addressing or mitigating,” Selmani stated.

He argued that these structural issues are fundamental in nature. Professor Selmani cautioned that superficial governmental adjustments are unlikely to yield lasting results. He suggested that any incoming government, or any appointed minister, cannot single-handedly resolve the deep-seated problems facing the nation.

For genuine progress, he asserted that systemic policy changes must take precedence over personnel shifts. The focus, therefore, must shift from cabinet restructuring to developing and executing a cohesive economic and fiscal strategy to stabilize the public finances.
