Street names in Tetovë, BDI again in protest on April 11

The BDI branch in Tetovë has announced plans to organize a civil protest scheduled for November 11th. The protest stems from a recent decision by the Constitutional Court, which resulted in the annulment of several street and square designations within the city. In a formal statement, the local BDI chapter asserted that the Municipality of Tetovë failed to submit the documentation that the Constitutional Court had requested.

According to the statement, this omission led directly to the annulment of the naming decisions and the subsequent restoration of prior street names. The BDI statement further addressed the leadership regarding the decision. It stated that Bilall Kasami bears political responsibility for the outcome, citing his perceived silence and lack of action concerning the Court’s requests.

The group emphasized that this situation impacts the historical interest and dignity of the citizens of Tetovë. The core concern highlighted by the BDI remains the legal status and recognition of local place names. The group is calling upon all citizens to participate in the demonstration to advocate for accountability regarding the naming conventions of the city’s streets.

The protest aims to draw attention to the procedural failures that culminated in the reversal of the new street names, maintaining a focus on civic governance and adherence to legal mandates.
