FBI: We have seized more than 600 drones at U.S. stadiums

The FBI has reported that the airspace over stadiums has been traversed by over 600 drones since the commencement of the World Cup. Of the 99 drones recovered to date, 77 were documented in Miami, while 32 were located in Atlanta and Kansas. According to the agency, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have successfully seized these drones across 11 host cities throughout the United States.

Prior to the tournament, the FBI announced the enforcement of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy designed to restrict drone operations. This policy establishes temporary flight restrictions around stadiums and venues associated with viewing the matches. The agency issued clear warnings regarding non-compliance.

Violations of these regulations can result in significant penalties, including civil fines up to $75,000, criminal fines up to $100,000, potential imprisonment of up to one year, and the confiscation of associated equipment. These efforts underscore heightened security measures implemented by the FBI to manage airspace safety during the global event. The continuous monitoring and subsequent seizure of unauthorized drones highlight the federal government’s commitment to maintaining controlled airspace integrity throughout the host cities.
