LVV says it has the votes for the Government, calls for consensus on the president

The Vetëvendosje movement has announced that it has secured the requisite votes to proceed with the formation of the new government following the elections held on September 7. According to the party, the immediate focus will be on establishing the executive branch, while the selection of the president will require a separate process involving broader political agreement. Arbërie Nagavci, the former head of the Parliamentary Group for Vetëvendosje, addressed Radio Free Europe, detailing the party’s strategy.

Nagavci stated, “Regarding the government, we have the necessary votes. Therefore, immediately after the constitution of Parliament, without losing time, we must proceed with the procedure for voting for the government.”

He further clarified the two-pronged approach to state leadership. While emphasizing the immediate parliamentary vote for the government, Nagavci added that the party remains committed to achieving consensus regarding the election of the president within established constitutional deadlines.

This statement implicitly references a prior procedural failure concerning the presidential election, which had previously necessitated early elections. Contextually, the movement’s leader, Albin Kurti, emerged as the winner of the September 7 elections, securing 47.13 percent of the vote, equating to 53 million ballots cast. The party’s declaration signals a determined intent to move swiftly on forming the cabinet while navigating the complexities of achieving broad political consensus for the highest office.
