Britain declares Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization

The United Kingdom government has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. In a formal statement delivered to Parliament, the British Secretary of State for Security, Angela Eagle, confirmed that the government had identified specific activities connected to the IRGC that pose threats to life and intimidation within the territory of the United Kingdom. In a parallel action, the government also addressed the Islamic Movement of the Associates of Justice (IMCR), citing its established links to Iran.

The measures taken establish a broader scope of criminal activity. Under the new guidelines, criminal offenses now encompass several categories of association and support. Individuals can face charges for supporting these designated groups, or for expressing an opinion or belief that supports their objectives.

Furthermore, the law prohibits assisting in carrying out activities linked to the United Kingdom, or engaging in any behavior deemed likely to materially assist these organizations. The regulations also criminalize the act of accepting or retaining any benefit derived from these specified entities. These governmental actions underscore the UK’s stated intent to counter threats originating from groups associated with the Iranian regime.

The designation specifically targets the operational reach of the revolutionary guard structure, expanding the legal framework to address both direct support and indirect material assistance to the listed organizations.
