Samsung provides clarification regarding the use of Samsung Health data for AI training

Last week, users of the Samsung Health application reported receiving a notification requiring consent for the use of their personal health data in artificial intelligence (AI) training and modeling processes. The notice presented users with the option to grant or withdraw consent regarding this data usage. However, the notification explicitly warned that opting out of this training consent would result in the deletion of the user’s existing health data and would sever the ability to synchronize that information with their Samsung account.

The disclosure prompted considerable user concern and criticism directed at Samsung. In response to the feedback, Samsung published an in-app notice intended to clarify the specifics of the data handling procedures. According to reports, Samsung issued a statement differentiating the two types of data utilized.

The company clarified that the health data collected specifically for AI training and modeling purposes is maintained separately from the core data used to provide the day-to-day functionalities of the Samsung Health services. This clarification addresses user concerns regarding the scope of data retention and usage. The core functionality of the health platform, which relies on user-submitted data, remains distinct from the dataset earmarked for advanced AI development.

The update aims to provide users with a clearer understanding of how their sensitive health data is segmented and managed within the Samsung ecosystem.
