Lumir Abdixhiku, Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), responded to the submission of 148 delegate signatures demanding an extraordinary session of the party and calling for his removal from the chairmanship. In his statement, Abdixhiku indicated that, in adherence to the LDK statute and acknowledging the will of one-third of the delegates, he has authorized the general secretary to immediately commence the necessary procedures for organizing the session. Speaking on the matter, Abdixhiku affirmed the party’s commitment to democratic processes.
“The LDK has been and must remain the home of democracy,” he stated. He continued, asserting that the party would not evade any democratic vote nor would it hold any office against the consensus of the majority. Furthermore, Abdixhiku announced a suspension of his current commitments regarding the formation of new Kosovo institutions.
He characterized the initiative prompting this action as not being a serious matter. The response from Abdixhiku signals a shift in the party’s immediate focus following the challenge to his leadership within the LDK. The initiation of the extraordinary session marks a significant procedural development for the party’s governance structure.
