The Open Art Gallery in Pristina has inaugurated an art exhibition titled “anGjelus Novus” by artist Arianit Lakna. The show is curated by Artrit Bytyçi and features musical compositions by Zwada. The core subject matter of this exhibition revolves around the deer, a recurring and significant motif within the body of work created by lakna.
This particular presentation establishes a dialogue between the deer motif and established artistic and philosophical touchstones, notably Paul Klee’s famous piece, “Angelus Novus,” alongside interpretations from Walter Benjamin. However, Lakna’s “anGjeli i Ri” transcends these direct references, developing a distinct symbolism that speaks to themes of labor, accountability, and profound dedication. A prominent piece within the collection, titled “Zgjohu me Gjela” (Awake with the Deer), visually portrays a deer set against a substantial accumulation of perceived obligations.
The artwork suggests a resilience, depicting the subject as remaining steadfast and dignified despite the ongoing accumulation of challenges. Through this thoughtful engagement, Lakna revisits the concept embedded in novus, transforming it from a mere artistic allusion into a commentary on contemporary human endurance. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how personal dedication interacts with societal demands, using the enduring imagery of the deer to anchor its message.
