Report: 901 executions in Iran in 7 months, including protesters, women, and minors

A new report released by the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran, based in Washington, details the number of executions that took place within the country between January and July 2026. According to the findings, a minimum of 901 individuals were executed during this seven-month period. The document indicates a marked escalation in the rate of executions, noting particular increases in cases linked to national security concerns, involvement in drug-related criminal activities, and participation in specific ethnic groups.

Analyzing the 901 documented cases, the report specifies that 56 of the individuals were executed on charges categorized as political offenses or those related to national security matters. Within this security-related grouping, the data points to 29 executions connected to protests, 13 involving espionage charges, and 14 attributed to other security-related activities. The largest category of charges documented involved drug trafficking or related activities, accounting for at least 268 of the total executions during the first seven months of the year.

The center’s analysis provides a detailed breakdown of these judicial actions, suggesting patterns in the charges leading to the reported fatalities.
