Drug network busted in Spain and Portugal; over 3.3 tons of cocaine and weapons seized

Spanish and Portuguese authorities conducted a joint operation resulting in the seizure of over 3.3 tons of cocaine across the Costa del Sol region and in Portugal. During the operation, three individuals were arrested—two in Spain and one in Portugal—who authorities identified as members of an international drug trafficking network. The coordinated effort between the two nations aimed to dismantle a sophisticated network suspected of facilitating the transport of large quantities of cocaine between Spain and Portugal.

The arrested persons face multiple charges, including participation in a criminal organization, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, assault on police officers, and violations of road safety regulations. The investigation gained traction on August 11, when Spanish authorities received information prompting the joint action. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies from both Spain and Portugal underscores a joint effort to combat cross-border illicit trade.

The scale of the seizure and the number of arrests indicate a significant disruption to the drug supply chain operating through the Iberian Peninsula. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the network’s operations and its connections beyond the two countries.
