“Enough with the silence,” the New Union of KEK demands accountability following the workplace tragedy.

The New Union of KEK has issued a strong statement following the recent death of a worker at the company’s premises. The new union has sharply criticized management, citing what it views as a significant lapse in moral responsibility and inadequate safety protocols within the workplace. Xhelal Jashari, Chairman of the New Union of KEK, described the passing of a colleague as a profound tragedy for all employees of the Kosovo Energy Corporation.

Jashari highlighted the frequency of such incidents, noting, “In seven months, we have seen four workers die at the workplace, and there is no moral accountability?”

The union’s criticisms were directed toward several directors and managers, who were accused of prioritizing concerns related to job positions and salary structures over the fundamental safety of the workforce. According to Jashari, management’s focus appeared misaligned, with resources seemingly allocated to non-essential expenditures. Specifically, he questioned the allocation of funds toward external consultants and the use of official vehicles during non-working hours, suggesting these expenditures undermined necessary safety investments.

The union’s statement underscores a growing internal dispute regarding operational priorities at KEK. By calling for greater accountability, the New Union is advocating for immediate and comprehensive reforms to worker safety standards across all company sites.
