Health Insurance Fund Reports Increased Budget and Physician Payments in 2025
The Health Insurance Fund published its annual report for 2025, revealing a significant increase in its operational budget and payments to physicians in private practice. The fund’s overall budget increased by 6.13 percent, reaching 51.5 billion denar (approximately 836 million euros). This represents a substantial rise compared to the previous year’s allocation.
Revenues for the year totaled 52.08 billion denar, demonstrating a strong financial performance for the fund. A key component of this increase was a 33 percent rise in payments to physicians operating in private practice. In 2025, the Health Insurance Fund covered 1,841,530 insured persons, an increase of 1,993 individuals from the prior year.
The insured population comprised 558,469 active employees, 358,716 pensioners, and 630,914 family members. Notably, the fund observed a continuing trend of population aging among its insured members. Pensioner numbers grew by 1.5 percent, while active employee numbers increased by 0.2 percent.
These figures highlight the evolving demographic makeup of those covered by the Health Insurance Fund. The report underscores the fund’s continued efforts to manage its budget and provide coverage to a growing insured population.
