A police officer in Macedonia was charged with aggravated assault after physically assaulting his wife.

Skopje Police Officer Charged in Assault Case

The Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia has initiated criminal proceedings against a police officer, R.R. (39), following a reported assault. The Unit for Serious Crimes, operating under the Skopje State Bureau of Investigation (SPB) and affiliated with the Basic Public Prosecution for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption (PTHP NKOK), filed a complaint with an urgent procedure based on suspicion of committing bodily harm.

The incident occurred on May 2, 2026, when R.R. allegedly physically assaulted his 37-year-old wife. Following the incident, R.R.

was apprehended and brought before the preliminary procedure judge. The judge has ordered a pre-trial detention for a period of eight days. The Internal Control Sector, Criminal Investigation Division, and Professional Standards Sector of the Ministry of Interior Administration (MIA) will now prepare a proposal to investigate a potential violation of regulations.
