A pot from Michigan is born with 28 fingers

A family from Michigan has established a new Guinness World Record following the birth of a kitten found to have an unusual number of digits. The 10-month-old kitten, named Toby, has been verified by a veterinarian as possessing 28 toes, setting a new world record for the highest number of toes observed on a cat. This achievement surpasses a previous record set in 2002 by a Canadian pet named Jake.

The average number of toes on a cat is 18. Cats with an excess of toes are medically referred to as polydactyl. According to reports, the discovery was remarkable to the family.

Delaney Henderson, a resident of Lansing, expressed her surprise upon seeing the kitten’s paws. “When I first saw his toes, I truly couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Henderson told Guinness World Records. “Having another polydactyl cat, I expected ‘big’ extra toes, but nothing could have prepared me to see Toby’s paws.”

The establishment of this new record highlights the rarity of polydactyly in feline anatomy.

The verification by a veterinarian ensures the accuracy of the count, solidifying Toby’s place in the Guinness World Records book. The finding from Michigan adds to the documented instances of genetic variations in animal anatomy.
