Residents Plan Peaceful Protest Demanding Improved Border Access
Residents and activists from Peja, Plavë, and Guci are organizing a peaceful protest scheduled for today, April 25, 2026. The demonstration, centered around the slogan “Enough with isolation!”, will focus on the functionalization of the road and the opening of the Çakor border crossing, aiming to enhance connectivity between Kosovo and Montenegro. The protest is being organized by initiators Muhamet Nikqi, Mehdi Berisha, and Nedzat Cecunjanin and anticipates a large turnout of citizens, civil society representatives, and activists from both sides of the border.
The gathering will take place in the Kutllovë–Kuciste area, specifically on Çakor Mountain, commencing at 12:00. Recent reporting by Telegrafi has detailed the situation, including statements from the Peja Municipality and local residents, alongside ongoing concerns regarding a lack of response from the Ministry of Interior. The core demand is the facilitating of border movement, representing a significant step towards reducing regional isolation.
Organizers are hopeful that the protest will draw attention to the need for improved infrastructure and the opening of the crossing.
