Ademi: There have been 13 initiatives to reduce the Albanian language, some of which have sought to abolish the law entirely.

BDI Files Thirteen Initiatives Against Language Law at Constitutional Court

Arbër Ademi, the General Secretary of the Democratic Party of Albania (BDI), announced that thirteen initiatives have been submitted to the Constitutional Court challenging the recently enacted Albanian Language Law. Speaking on “Click Plus,” Ademi stated that these initiatives represent a concerted effort to completely invalidate the legislation. The core of the challenge centers around accusations that the law is being deliberately targeted for annulment.

According to Ademi, one of the contesting parties is the OBRM-PDUKM organization. The submitted initiatives propose the abolishment of eighteen articles, outlined in nine separate articles within the law. The legal challenge stems from two primary arguments.

Firstly, the lack of signature from the former president is being cited as grounds for contestation. Secondly, the initiatives are pursuing a detailed, article-by-article review of the law. Ademi emphasized that the legal proceedings represent a significant effort to scrutinize the law’s provisions.

The BDI’s stance reflects a concern regarding the potential impact of the law on linguistic diversity within Albania.
