A Montenegrin national, wanted for organizing a criminal group and drug trafficking, has been arrested in Serbia following a request from Montenegro. The individual is currently detained in a Belgrade prison and is alleged to have used falsified documents issued in Kosovo. Serbian authorities did not respond to inquiries from Radio Free Europe regarding the circumstances or duration of Vuk Vulleviq’s presence in Serbia, nor did they confirm any plans for his extradition to Montenegro after his arrest on February 11.
Velimir Rakočević, a professor of criminology at the Faculty of Law in Podgorica, commented on the situation, stating that the individual has a “long history in the world of crime and, evidently, very good connections, which have allowed him to hide successfully.”
Montenegro has been attempting to locate Vulleviq since 2024, based on suspicions that he was involved in illicit activities. The ongoing detention in Serbia raises questions regarding international cooperation and the ease with which wanted persons can remain in neighboring jurisdictions, even when facing accusations of serious organized crime offenses.
