ASH: The silence of the MPB only adds to the doubts about the warnings before the protest in Tetovë

The Deputy of the Alliance for Albanians, Halil Snopçe, addressed the Parliament to demand clarification from the Ministry of Internal Affairs concerning the safety warnings issued before a recent protest held in Tetovë. Snopçe questioned the basis for the official advisories, asking whether the Ministry possessed verifiable, operational intelligence regarding potential dangers or if the warnings were based on unfounded public alarm. During the parliamentary session, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs was present and positioned to respond on behalf of the minister.

However, Snopçe noted that the official remained silent during the questioning. When the Deputy was informed that a written response would be provided instead, Snopçe argued that this procedural action did not resolve the underlying concerns; rather, it intensified them. He emphasized that the protest in Tetovë concluded peacefully, without any reported incidents.

Despite this outcome, the official warnings previously issued by the Minister of Economy remained unsubstantiated, according to the deputy. The core of Snopçe’s inquiry centered on accountability. He pressed for a definitive statement detailing the source and validity of the preemptive safety alerts.

The parliamentary exchange highlighted a significant divergence between the official warnings issued and the peaceful reality of the demonstration. The unresolved nature of the Ministry’s explanation regarding the initial intelligence assessment remains a key point of contention following the parliamentary session.
