BDI: BDI cannot live in opposition

VLEN Responds to BDI Criticism of Izet Mexhiti

The Union of Democratic Forces (VLEN) has issued a statement responding to accusations made by the Democratic Alternative (BDI) regarding the activities of Izet Mexhiti. VLEN characterized the BDI’s actions as “starting again with its old film.”

The statement asserts that Mexhiti’s rise to opposition status was a result of public support, stemming from his roles as mayor and deputy, and driven by a mandate from the Albanian population. VLEN contends that Mexhiti’s position is distinct from those held within governmental offices and reliant on financial support.

Specifically, VLEN criticizes the BDI, led by Ali Ahmeti, arguing that its members prioritize personal gain and political advancement over genuine engagement with constituents. The organization contrasts Mexhiti’s direct dialogue with the public with the BDI’s focus on executive positions and influence within the power market. The statement references figures within the BDI, including Bujar Osmani, Blerim Bexheti, and Fatmir Besimi, characterizing them as prioritizing personal advancement over public service.

The core of the VLEN’s response centers on the assertion that Izet Mexhiti’s legitimacy derives from the Albanian people, not from political offices. The BDI’s criticisms of Izet Mexhiti remain a point of contention.
