Bejrout and Tel Aviv reach agreement – Israeli army partially withdraws from southern Lebanon

Israel and Lebanon have finalized and signed a framework agreement detailing the partial withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from southern Lebanon. Under the terms of this agreement, Israeli military personnel will withdraw from two specific locations situated within the approximately ten-kilometer buffer zone previously established by the IDF in the region. The agreement stipulates that the responsibility for these areas will be transferred to Lebanese armed forces personnel.

The Israeli delegation stated that the designated zones have been cleared of Hezbollah infrastructure. Furthermore, the IDF asserted that this clearance process involved the complete demolition of certain Lebanese villages situated near the border. Israeli sources claimed that these structures were utilized by Hezbollah for the planning and execution of attacks directed against Israel.

The framework agreement was reached following negotiations that concluded on the fourth day of the fifth round of discussions, which were mediated by international parties. This diplomatic accord marks a significant development regarding the military presence in southern Lebanon. The implementation of this agreement requires the phased handover of security responsibilities, fundamentally altering the military dynamic between Israel and Lebanon in the area.

The successful ratification of this agreement is anticipated to reshape security arrangements along the border.
