Blockage of donations from Kosovo, Kamberi: Banks are becoming an instrument of discrimination against Albanians

Serbian Parliament Member Condemns HalkBank’s Rejection of Kosovan Donations

Belgrade – Shaip Kamberi, an Albanian deputy in the Serbian Parliament, has sharply criticized HalkBank’s decision to reject donations intended for the National Council of Albanians in Serbia. Kamberi views the action as discriminatory towards the Albanian community within Serbia and a concerning development. In a public statement, Kamberi asserted that the refusal of donations originating from Kosovo for the council’s operations represents a “worrying and unacceptable precedent.” He highlighted the lack of transparency, public decision-making, and legal justification surrounding the rejection.

“The recent actions of HalkBank… constitute a clear politically motivated and discriminatory act,” Kamberi stated. He emphasized that the situation has moved beyond a simple banking matter. Kamberi argued that the decision specifically targets the National Council of Albanians and raises serious questions about potential political interference.

He underscored the importance of continued support for the council, particularly given the donations originating from Kosovo. The incident is currently under scrutiny, with Kamberi’s comments suggesting a broader concern regarding the treatment of Albanians within Serbia and the potential for politically driven actions impacting their organizations.
