Concerning views from Badovci, pollution threatens one of Kosovo’s main water sources

The environmental group “Let’s Clean Kosovo” has voiced serious concerns regarding the current state of the area near the Badovc Lake dam, alleging that the site has once again become an unauthorized landfill. The organization issued a statement highlighting the discrepancy between recent clean-up efforts and the current pollution levels. The group recalled that on World Water Day, March 22, a significant volunteer initiative took place in the area.

This event successfully mobilized volunteers, various institutions, media outlets, and citizens to remove substantial quantities of accumulated waste. However, the organization noted that the present condition is once again alarming. They stated that the visual evidence of pollution speaks for itself, implying that voluntary clean-up actions alone are insufficient to resolve the underlying issue affecting the water source.

In light of the recurring problem in Kosovo, the group is advocating for immediate and systemic interventions from responsible governing bodies. Their demands include implementing rigorous monitoring protocols, establishing robust pollution prevention measures, and enforcing strict penalties against individuals or entities responsible for illegal dumping. The focus remains on transitioning from sporadic clean-up drives to comprehensive regulatory oversight to protect the integrity of the lake and its surrounding environment.
