Dauti: VLEN and BDI serve OBRM-PDUKM, the new Electoral Code excludes Albanian diaspora members

Ilire Dauti, Deputy of the Albanian League, has publicly alleged that the political blocs VLEN and BDI are acting in a manner that benefits OBRM-PDUKM concerning the proposed amendments to the Electoral Code. Dauti stated that the modifications under consideration carry significant implications for the voting rights of the albanian diaspora. Specifically, she claims that these proposed changes would eliminate the ability for expatriate members to cast ballots either electronically or via mail, even during local elections.

She further asserted that this restriction would directly undermine the electoral outcomes in several municipalities with substantial albanian majorities. In a direct address to the albanian electorate, Dauti maintained that the two major political entities, VLEN and BDI, are cooperating, albeit through differing strategies, to advance the interests of VMRO. “Dear Albanians, VLEN and BDI are cooperating, each in its own way, to pave the way for VMRO,” Dauti declared during her remarks.

According to Dauti, this observed cooperation between the two political groups suggests a unified effort toward a specific political outcome regarding electoral law. Her statement highlights a perceived alignment among key political actors that centers on the passage of the revised code. The controversy surrounding the Electoral Code has drawn considerable attention, as the mechanism for remote voting is viewed by some observers as crucial for maintaining the participation of the albanian community in national and local governance.

Dauti’s accusations continue to frame the debate around the integrity and accessibility of the voting process for diaspora constituents.
