Albanian Officials Urge EU to Fulfill Thessaloniki Summit Commitments
At a new panel convened this morning to address challenges within the EU enlargement process, representatives from Albania and “Solucija” emphasized the urgency of fulfilling previously stated commitments. Chairman Nikolla Dimitrov of “Solucija” and Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, delivered a clear message to member states regarding the 2003 Thessaloniki Summit. Speaking this morning, Dimitrov stressed the need for increased engagement and proactive efforts by Albania and other Western Balkan nations to achieve EU membership.
“We need to work much more for our goal in the member states of the EU, to convince and to be active. We do not have the luxury of failing to do so,” he stated, highlighting the significance of European integration for the stability of the entire region. Hoxha further underscored the strategic importance of enlargement, framing the issue as a matter of security and border consolidation.
He argued that restrictive measures and reinforced borders inadvertently fuel divisive political narratives and exploit the influence of external powers. The officials asserted that continued progress on enlargement is crucial to preventing political instability and promoting a unified approach to regional security challenges. They emphasized the need for member states to actively support the integration process and uphold previously made assurances.
