Dugolli responds to Rama: LVV has no role in protests in Albania

The Vetëvendosje movement has publicly distanced itself from the ongoing protests occurring across Albania, which have persisted for the twenty-third consecutive day. Despite this official denial, the visible participation in the demonstrations is reportedly coming from individual activists associated with the group. Enver Dugolli, a member of the party’s General Council, publicly affirmed his personal support for the anti-government demonstrations taking place in Tirana.

Speaking on the matter, Dugolli asserted that the protest is not an official directive of the movement. Instead, he characterized the participation as stemming from individual activists and citizens who share a sympathy for what they consider the legitimate concerns of the populace. “Vetëvendosje has nothing to do with this protest; it is simply us, some activists or some people, exponents, who sympathize with the legitimate demands of the citizens, their legitimate concerns, and that’s it,” Dugolli stated.

He further clarified that the movement as a whole is not positioned to take responsibility for the demonstrations, whether viewed from Kosovo or any other capacity. This statement represents a notable distinction between the official organizational stance of the political entity and the actions of its members on the ground. Previously, Dugolli had addressed Prime Minister Edi Rama, making specific calls regarding the political climate in Albania.

The divergence between the group’s official repudiation of involvement and the active presence of its members highlights a complex dynamic within the current political landscape.

  1. The official denial seems at odds with the visible participation of activists in the protests.
