E-commerce activity in North Macedonia demonstrated significant growth during the first quarter of 2026, according to data released by the Macedonian E-commerce Association (SHTEM). The association reported that local online stores saw a total expenditure of 156 million euros within the country during that period. Further detailing the scale of digital trade, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia (NBRM) provided figures concerning e-commerce point-of-sale transactions (excluding electronic money transfers).
According to the NBRM, the total value of online transactions in the first quarter of 2026 reached 16,355.96 million denars, equivalent to 265.95 million euros. This figure marks an 18.1% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. These recorded transactions encompass a broad scope of digital commerce.
Specifically, the total value includes purchases made by local citizens from both domestic and international online retailers. Furthermore, the data accounts for expenditures made by foreign consumers purchasing goods from sellers operating within macedonia. The sustained increase in both local spending and cross-border transactions highlights the expanding role of digital commerce within the nation’s economy.
The figures underscore robust consumer adoption and the increasing reliance on online platforms for goods and services across macedonia.
