UNMIK Official Draws Judicial Comparisons, Cites Concerns About Kosovo’s Justice System
PRIŠTINA – Andrea Lako, a representative from UNMIK, recently presented a comparative analysis of the judicial systems in Kosovo and Albania during a discussion organized by the Kosovar Institute for Justice. Lako asserted that Kosovo’s judicial system exhibits similarities to Switzerland in its structure. During the event, Lako indicated he would not engage with reports produced by the Kosovar Institute for Justice, characterizing them as intended to provide a moral framework for justice within Kosovo.
He stated his intention was to share his observations regarding the prosecutorial and judicial system operating within the country, specifically drawing comparisons to Albania. Lako’s comments centered on his experience in Albania, where he participated in the development of numerous legal mechanisms. However, he attributed the failure of these mechanisms to undue political influence.
“In Kosovo…” he began, before the statement was cut short. The discussion highlighted concerns regarding the effectiveness of the justice system in Kosovo and the potential impact of political interference on its operation. The comparison to Albania underscores a desire to examine alternative approaches to establishing a robust and impartial system of justice.
