Elections: Mail-in voting begins

OSCE representative Valmir Elezi provided an update on the ongoing election tabulation process, confirming that the counting of postal votes has commenced. This development followed the near completion of the vote counting from diplomatic missions abroad. According to Elezi, as of 9:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2017, the central election commission (CEC) reported that 34 out of the 47 polling stations had been successfully counted.

Concurrently, the CEC initiated the process of counting the initial batch of postal ballots originating from voters outside Kosovo. The handling of these overseas votes follows a structured procedure. The postal ballots are systematically organized into dedicated ballot boxes, with the contents segregated according to the respective municipalities from which the voters cast their votes.

Elezi specified that the counting effort for the postal votes had begun with the examination of the first ballot box. The continuous counting of these various sources—in-person polling stations, diplomatic missions, and postal submissions—is critical to finalizing the overall election results. The systematic collation of these ballots ensures that all eligible votes are accounted for in the official tally.

The methodical nature of the counting process, particularly the organization of the postal ballots by municipality, underscores the comprehensive effort to verify the integrity of the vote count. Officials continue to manage the flow of information as the remaining ballots are processed through the central counting mechanism.
