Spain Sees Record Employment Figures, Unemployment Drops Below 2.4 Million

Spain’s labor market experienced a significant upturn in April, with employment reaching 22 million workers – a new record – and unemployment falling below 2.4 million, according to official data released today by RTVE. The latest figures demonstrate a substantial shift in the Spanish economy. The number of registered unemployed decreased by 62,668 individuals from March, totaling 2.36 million.

This marks the first time unemployment has dipped below 2.4 million since June 2008. Simultaneously, Social Security affiliation reached a record monthly average of 22.1 million workers, an increase driven by the addition of 223,685 jobs during the month. “We have achieved a record figure after 63 consecutive months of employment growth,” stated Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz.

The data highlights a positive trend across the country. Notably, youth unemployment also saw a historic low, with 169,693 individuals under the age of 25 employed. These figures represent a considerable advancement in addressing long-standing concerns regarding job opportunities for younger workers.

The continued trend underscores a strengthening labor market within Spain, with millions employed and unemployment steadily decreasing.
