FIFA is forced to pay compensation after the horrific injury to the Canadian star at the World Cup

FIFA is set to provide significant compensation to the Italian club Sassuolo following a severe injury sustained by Ismael Kone during Canada’s match against Qatar at the 2026 World Cup. The Canadian team, managed by Jesse Marsch, secured a decisive 6-0 victory in Vancouver, but the match was significantly disrupted in the second half. During this period, Kone suffered a severe leg fracture.

The Canadian player was removed from the pitch via stretcher after sustaining the injury following a tackle from Assim Madibo. After reviewing the incident using Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, the referee issued a red card to the Qatari player, despite the latter offering an apology in the locker room afterward. While an exact recovery date for Kone has not been officially announced, current reports indicate that his absence is anticipated to last between four and five months.

Consequently, FIFA will pay the stipulated compensation to Sassuolo as a direct result of Kone’s injury sustained during the tournament fixture.
