A conference titled “Media Cooperation in Kosovo: Dialogue, Cooperation, and the Future of Independent Media” was held in Pristina on Tuesday to address the ongoing challenges facing the region’s journalism sector. Key discussions centered on the persistent struggle against disinformation and the critical issue of financial sustainability for local media outlets. During the event, international support for journalism was highlighted.
Olivier Guerot, the French Ambassador to Kosovo, confirmed that France intends to maintain its commitment to supporting the fight against disinformation within the country. He also detailed a broader regional initiative designed to enhance public awareness regarding false information. The dialogue underscored the importance of bolstering the resilience of the media landscape in Kosovo.
While acknowledging the operational hurdles, the conference also provided an overview of the sector’s progress. Guerot noted that while Kosovo has experienced fluctuations, its standing has shown improvement according to the Reporters Without Borders index, where the nation is currently ranked 84th for 2026. This represents an improvement compared to its 2019 ranking of 75th, suggesting a developing trajectory for the independent media sector in Kosovo.
Overall, the discussions emphasized that while the fight against misinformation remains a priority, sustained international and domestic efforts are required to ensure the long-term viability and professional integrity of the media in Kosovo.
