Fire Continues to Burn Near Glazhnja Reservoir
Teams from “The Forests of Macedonia” are continuing efforts to extinguish a fire that originated yesterday at the Glazhnja reservoir in the Likova Municipality. The company reported ongoing operations this morning. Deputy Director Kire Mihailov stated that the fire was initially reported around midday yesterday.
Response teams, including personnel from the Territorial Firefighting Unit – Kumanovo, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The blaze has spread across a wide road, prompting investigators to suspect deliberate ignition. “The fire has engulfed both sides of a wide road, which means it was deliberately set on both sides of the road, otherwise it would not have been possible for it to have transferred from one side to the other naturally,” Mihailov explained.
The company believes the fire is linked to previous actions taken to address illegally cut timber within the area. Following this intervention, fires subsequently broke out. Firefighters are currently focused on containing the spread of the fire and assessing the full extent of the damage.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the incident.
