Fires in Spain out of control, authorities on high alert

A wildfire that ignited on Friday in Herbon, located in Padron, A Coruña, Spain, remains an active incident, having already consumed an estimated 330 hectares. Due to the ongoing threat, authorities have issued a level 2 alert, resulting in the continued evacuation of approximately ten homes. Although initial reports suggested the fire was stabilizing during the morning hours, conditions deteriorated throughout the day, exacerbated by high temperatures exceeding 30°C and strong winds.

Anxo Rei Arca, the mayor of Padron, noted the change in weather patterns, stating, “There is quite a bit of wind, which we did not have in winter.”

Separately, a vegetation fire in Sanaüja, Lleida, has reportedly stabilized, with firefighting efforts continuing in the area. Regarding the Herbon incident, authorities have confirmed that there are currently no reported casualties or property damages. Nevertheless, the proximity of the active blaze to several inhabited centers continues to be a significant concern for local officials.

The ongoing monitoring and response efforts are being managed by regional authorities to control the spread of the fire across the region of Spain.
