The Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Stojance Angellov, has issued a call for assistance to combat expected wildfires this summer. Angellov is specifically appealing to former personnel from the police, the Army, and the fire services, encouraging their participation in seasonal firefighting efforts. According to statements made by Angellov, participating individuals will receive a monthly compensation of 44,000 denars, which equates to an earning of 2,150 euros over a three-month period.
The operational needs for the response teams are diverse. Angellov detailed the requirement for drivers skilled in operating specialized vehicles, including 22 Pinzgauer units, 5 Hermelin units, and 15 BTRs adapted for anti-fire duties. Furthermore, the director specified the need for trained operators capable of managing firefighting pumps mounted on specialized apparatus, as well as personnel equipped with essential gear such as backpack water bags and shovels.
The initiative aims to mobilize experienced manpower to support efforts in open areas anticipated to face fire risks. By engaging retired professionals, the Directorate seeks to bolster its operational capacity with proven expertise. The call emphasizes that this opportunity provides a structured means for these experienced individuals to contribute to public safety while receiving financial compensation for their service.
