French Federation sues Paraguayan senator over racist comments about Mbappé

The French Football Federation (FFF) has announced it will initiate legal proceedings against Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla. This action follows comments she made concerning Kylian Mbappe after the France versus Paraguay match at the 2026 World Cup. In an official statement, the FFF strongly condemned the language used by the Paraguayan senator, characterizing the remarks as unacceptable and subject to penalty.

The federation asserted that the comments directed at Kylian Mbappe were deeply offensive. “The racist comments made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla regarding Kylian Mbappe are extremely offensive and unacceptable,” the official statement read. “How can such words be uttered?

These statements are criminal and punishable. They must be followed with penalties, here and everywhere.”

The FFF confirmed its intention to formally file a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office to commence legal action. The federation emphasized that such language cannot be tolerated and that legal repercussions are warranted.

This move underscores the FFF’s commitment to combating hate speech within the context of international football. The legal complaint signals a formal dispute initiated by the French football governing body against the Paraguayan official over the nature of her remarks.
