German drone companies are vying for Taiwan

German Drone Manufacturers Explore Taiwan Collaboration Following Ukraine Conflict

German drone manufacturers are actively pursuing closer partnerships with companies in Taiwan, driven by lessons learned from the Russia-Ukraine war. According to Linda Blechert, managing director of the German Chamber of Commerce’s single entity service in Taipei, Taiwan has emerged as a significant exporter of drones to the European market. Recent data indicates substantial growth in Taiwanese drone exports.

In the first quarter of 2023, these exports totaled $115.85 million (approximately €106 million), surpassing the entire volume of 2022, as reported by Telegrafi. This highlights the increasing reliance on sources outside of China. At least twelve German drone companies are scheduled to visit Taiwan in early May to investigate potential collaborative ventures.

Blechert emphasized the growing importance of diversifying supply chains. The initiative reflects a strategic shift towards securing reliable drone technology and components. The focus on cooperation with german firms and taiwanese manufacturers underscores a broader trend in the industry.

This move comes as the issue of supply chains outside of China becomes increasingly critical for drone manufacturers globally.
