“Golden Sabre 2026,” the major security exercise between local and international institutions

The joint military and civilian coordination exercise, designated “Golden Sabre 2026,” is scheduled to take place on February 2 and 3, 2026, at Vrella Camp. The simulation involves a broad coalition of international and local security entities. Participating organizations include the Kosovo Force (KFOR), the EULEX mission, the Kosovo Police, and the Agency for Emergency Management (AEM).

Furthermore, the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) will participate, aligning with its established mandate within the civil protection sector. According to official announcements, the scale of the exercise will necessitate the deployment of a substantial number of personnel, specialized vehicles, and various pieces of equipment across the designated training area and adjacent roadways. The primary objective of the “Golden Sabre” exercise is to rigorously test the operational capabilities and established protocols for managing complex crisis scenarios.

These scenarios are designed to simulate high-stakes security incidents, with a specific focus on the safe handling, identification, and disposal of explosive devices and various hazardous materials. Major General Ozkan Ulut, KFOR Commander, oversees the preparations for the event. The coordination among the diverse participating agencies aims to ensure a unified and effective response structure when confronting multifaceted security challenges.

The scope of the drills underscores a commitment to enhancing regional stability and improving cross-agency interoperability in times of crisis.
