Haradinaj Criticizes Kurt’s Presidential Selection Process
Prishtina – Former Alliance for the Future of Kosovo MP, Daut Haradinaj, has issued a strong critique of Prime Minister Albin Kurt’s selection of candidates for the position of president, arguing that the process ultimately contributed to the country’s return to elections. Speaking on May 1st, 2026, Haradinaj stated he publicly expresses gratitude for his exclusion from discussions led by Kurt. Haradinaj asserted that these meetings lacked substantive content and were characterized by a strategic approach intended to deflect blame onto opposition figures.
He specifically referenced observations made during rallies and parliamentary debates, stating that Kurt’s attempts to frame the opposition were unfounded. Furthermore, Haradinaj highlighted that none of the names nominated by Kurt for the presidency had engaged in negotiations with parliamentary deputies. This assertion reflects a key point of contention surrounding the failed selection process.
The criticism comes amidst ongoing political tensions following the unsuccessful attempts to secure a president through parliamentary vote. Prime Minister Kurt’s office has not yet released a formal statement addressing Haradinaj’s remarks.
