North Macedonia Ensures Universal Health Insurance Coverage for All Citizens
In North Macedonia, the Health Insurance Fund (ZHIF) has affirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive health insurance to all citizens. Director General Sasho Klekovski emphasized that the nation’s social state guarantees no citizen is excluded from health insurance coverage. Klekovski explained that the Health Insurance Law establishes multiple bases for citizen insurance, resulting in broad and thorough coverage across the population.
These bases include various employment and social categories. He clarified that a specific program within the Ministry of Health addresses the needs of citizens without income. This program covers health insurance contributions for individuals who cannot qualify under standard insurance bases.
“We ensure that all citizens, regardless of their income status, have access to necessary healthcare,” Klekovski stated. The state directly funds these contributions, guaranteeing equitable access to health services for vulnerable populations. The ZHIF continues to prioritize universal access to health insurance, reflecting North Macedonia’s commitment to a socially inclusive system for its citizens.
