IKD: 26 deputies with no statement in Parliament

IKD Reports Concerns Over Parliamentary Engagement in Fifth Legislature

Prishtina – An analysis by the Institute for Justice of Kosovo (IKD) has highlighted a significant lack of engagement from deputies within the current parliament. Senior researcher Naim Jakaj presented findings from a study of parliamentary activity during the Fifth Legislature, indicating a primary focus on economic and procedural matters. The IKD’s assessment reveals that critical issues, including European integration, community rights, environmental concerns, and the ongoing Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, have received limited attention.

Specifically, Jakaj noted that 26 deputies have not issued public statements, raising concerns about their level of participation. “The lack of parliamentary engagement undermines the representative function of the deputies,” Jakaj stated. He emphasized that the debate has largely centered on economic and procedural topics, leaving significant policy areas unexplored.

The IKD’s report underscores a potential gap between parliamentary discussions and the priorities of the Kosovan public. The findings prompt questions regarding the level of engagement among deputies and the effectiveness of the current legislative process.
